Creating A Protected Home

Server based griefer protection is limited on our server. It is up to the player to protect their homes and belongings. This page will explain how to do that.

Protecting Chests, Furnaces and Doors

To protect your items inside chests and furnaces, just right click a chest with a sign. It will attach to the chest or furance with the word [private] on the top line and your username on the second. You can also place the sign on the block above, below or in front of the chest or furnaces and enter [private] on the first line. You can add other people to the sign on the third and fourth lines if you wish.

You can also use these signs to protect doors, trapdoors and fence gates (although it looks pretty ugly). For more information on protecting your items with signs, read the usage second of the Deadbolt plugin page at Bukkit Dev.

Note: Chests, furnaces and the like are already protected in the regions you make outlined below. Any region owners will be able to access these chests but normal users won’t. You do not need signs on these. Doors, trapdoors and fence gates still do though.

Protecting Your Home

Protecting you home will prevent griefers or accidents by other players happening. It will prevent people building on your land or pouring water and lava over your house. The protected region will encompass your home from bedrock to sky but MAY be modified by an admin if, for example, a ravine runs under your house and other players want to mine in it. This usually won’t be a problem because the map is so large and players really should find a cave somewhere else.

To protect your home, follow these instructions:

  1. Type //wand to get a wooden axe. Note the double slash!
  2. Left-click with the wooden axe on a block in one corner of your home (usually one block out from your wall or fence). You should see “First position set…” at the bottom.
  3. Right-click with the wooden axe on a block in the opposite corner of your home. You should see “Second position set…” at the bottom.
  4. Type //expand vert to expand your selection from bedrock to sky. Note the double slash!
  5. Type /region define [ID] [owner] where [ID] is a unique identifier for your home and [owner] is your username (for example. /region define denneyshome). ID is not case sensitive and must not contain spaces.

Done! You now have a protected region around your home that no one can build in. Note that people abusing this system WILL have their rights to use region protection removed.

Allowing Other People To Build

Some times you want to allow your mates to help you build on your plot of land. This is easy to do by defining your region with multiple owners. Note that these people will be able to do anything to your region as if it was just normal land!

If you haven’t created your region yet, you can change step 5 above to this:

  • Type /region define [ID] [owner1] [owner2] … where [owner1] is your username and [owner2] etc. are the other players you want allowed to build. You can add as many owners as you want.

If you have already created your region, you can add or remove owners using the following commands:

  • Type /region addowner [ID] [owner] [owner2] … where [owner] is the username of the player you would like to add. You can add as many owners using this command as you want.
  • Type /region remowner [ID] [owner] [owner2] … where [owner] is the username of the player you would like to remove. You can remove as many owners using this command as you want.

Redefining Your Home

So you’ve added to your home and want to protect the new parts. Again, this is easy. Just follow the steps below:

  1. Follow steps 1 to 4 in the Protecting Your Home section above, adding the new area to your selection.
  2. Type /region redefine [ID] where [ID] is the same unique identifier you used originally.

Getting Information About A Region

If you want to find out information about a region or it’s owner, you can use the following command:

  • /region info [world] [ID] where [world] is the world the region is in and [ID] is the ID of the region you want information for.

Of course this is kind of pointless unless you can get a list of regions so use the following command:

  • /region list

Removing Protection

So you’ve moved on and no longer need protection around the land you own owned? Remove your region using the following command:

  • /region remove [ID] where [ID] is the unique identifier of the region you want to remove.

Other Notes

If you have a complaint about a region, contact an administrator with, at least, the region ID.

There is also a single player modification called WorldEditCUI that will graphically display your selection on the screen for you. I recommend you get this modification and install it. If you need help installing modifications, let me know and I’ll write up another tutorial page on that.
